Edwin Macharia

Edwin is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Axum and serves as the Team Leader for the Alliance for Health Financing in Africa (AHFIA). He specializes in supporting Heads of State, CEOs and global philanthropists on high-level strategy, program design and capital deployment. His deep roots in health began at the Clinton Foundation, where he was the first employee of the HIV/AIDS initiative. In this role, he helped mobilize over $1 billion for national care and treatment plans across more than 10 countries.
Previously, Edwin spent 16 years at Dalberg Advisors, building the firm’s global presence before being elected as its Global Managing Partner. He also served clients in the pharmaceutical and financial services sectors at McKinsey & Company in New York. Within AHFIA, he guides engagement with high-level investors to transform lives through strategic program design.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in Biology from Amherst College. His leadership has been globally recognized; he is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and was named by Forbes as one of the 10 Most Powerful Africans in 2015.
